Sam Woodard

Sam is a qualified child-centred, non-directive play therapist (MSc with distinction).

She is a full member of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT), accredited by The Professional Standards Authority. Subscribed to the update service, Sam holds enhanced DBS clearance, has full public liability and professional indemnity insurance and is on the ICO register. Sam receives regular clinical supervision and works within the BAPT Ethical basis for Good Practice in Play Therapy. Sam has always had a great passion for working with children and young people both here in the UK and abroad. She has experience in a number of roles and settings ranging from charity projects and international volunteering organisations through to education and teaching. Prior to play therapy, Sam enjoyed a fulfilling career as a primary school teacher and Head of Year. Wanting to be able to provide greater support to the emotional wellbeing of many of the children and families with whom she worked, Sam transitioned into the therapeutic profession of Play Therapy.

Sam’s therapeutic work has included supporting children experiencing personal and, or familial trauma, loss, bereavement, parental separation/divorce, anxiety, neglect, issues with self-esteem and long-term health conditions. Sam uses a child-centred, non-directive
approach with clients as the child leads the way through their therapeutic process.

Sam recognises the importance of personal self-care and professional development in the quality of the therapeutic work that she provides, and as such is committed to engaging in CPD activities and events, regularly attending clinical support groups with other therapeutic professionals.
